Yesterday,
The Guardian ran an interesting piece on France's relationship with Rwanda. . Twelve years after the genocide, the French are still trying to cover up their role in this tragic affair. The Hutu extremist genocidaires responsible for this slaughter should certainly be held accountable and punished for their deeds. However, France needs to own up to its error as well. Without French support, the genocide could not have reached the level that it did. The whole world should be ashamed for its lack of action nation included. On a geopolitical level, I can understand why the USA did not intervene. On a moral level, I cannot. However, the actions of France fall into an entirely different category. While the rest of the world can be accused of apathy and indifference, France actively provided assistance to those committing the genocide. The specific actions taken by the French led to more innocent deaths. Ye the French have the nerve to treat Rwanda like a pariah and make ridiculous allegations against President Paul Kagame. President Kagame certainly has
his flaws, but it was his army that stopped the genocide and brought stability back to Rwanda. The French have the blood of 800,000 Rwandans on their hands, and no amount of arrogance or denial will ever change that.
